Video file types

AVI – Stands for Audio Video Interleave. It’s a multimedia container format. They can contain both audio and video data using different CODECS (compression to decompression )

MPEG4 – This offers new video CODECS with twice the performance of MPEG2. It is the format of HD TV and used for mobile TV on handheld devices.

MPEG2 – This format is commonly used for digital television signals that are broadcast by terrestrial, cable and satellite TV systems. It’s also used as the format on DVD movies.

WMV – Windows Media, is a video compression format or CODEC developed by Microsoft.

MOV – Apples version of MPEG4 done through Quicktime media technology platform.
